AndroidTutor2018- Undoubtedly the worst thing about having a Kindle Fire 2 is the lack of customization. Sure, it's nice to have the world's largest online library at your fingertips, but what if you want to install your own launcher, sideload apps or access Google Now?
Well, it looks like soon you may be able to do just that. A user who operates under the Twitter handle Hashcode has uploaded video of a "mostly working" build of Cyanogen Mod 10.1 for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on the Kindle Fire 2. It's just a trial run for now, but Hashcode says he'll upload the test build "which requires the second bootloader" as well as a .zip file "in a bit".
My first thought was, I doubt Kindle Fire 2 owners are the modding type. But then I realize how many Kindles are unwittingly gifted to people who would have much preferred a Galaxy Tab or Nexus tablet.
Hashcode says he doesn't like the Kindle Fire 2, but that his custom ROM may be helpful for those who feel the same and don't know what the hell to do with it. He says, "I wouldn't pay more than $100 for the [Kindle Fire 2]. But tons are given out as gifts. I'm just saving them from the dump."
Watch a glimpse of the CM goodness in the short YouTube clip below. We'll let you know when we know more.
