Tap to wake is an Android feature that lets you wake your device by double tapping on the display instead of pressing the power button. It's also known as knock on. The idea is that it makes it easier and more convenient to check the time, see notifications or unlock your device.

Getting tap to wake on the Nexus 6P is easy, so long as you have root privileges. If your Nexus 6P isn't rooted, you can find a guide for how to make it so at this link (please note that this will void your warranty).

Maybe it is still interesting: I discovered that although the double tap doesn't work, but the five knock with 2-3 fingernail does!

First off, thanks for this article. I was looking for this and happened to stumble on this site and that has solved my problem. Now for the naysayers
1. Why would you need this? Simple. When my phone is down on the table, I don't always want to pick it up, slide my finger behind and unlock it. I just want to see what's going on. Double tap.
2. Irresponsible article? What are you 2 years old? The whole internet is irresponsible. You surf at your own risk.
3. Rooting is not that complicated. Thanks to youtube and google you can pretty much find tried and true ways to root your phone. Just stop being technologically squirmish. I believe you can find a "foolproof way to root your nexus 6p" should you be inclined/bothered to look for.
What's that saying? “Some people see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say, why not?”
if an article is not for you? STFU and move along.

the finger print reader is so fast that i get to my home screen in half the time it takes to Tap to Wake, then unlock the device lol.

What an irresponsible article. Go root then come back! Oh BTW, voids your warranty and you may not be able to receive new updates! I bought this phone without bloatware so I would not need to root. Rooting is for those that like to tweak their phones, not for beginners.

nooo need to root a phone for normal user just for double tap........normal user who dont knw much about root n usinh file manager like ES file explorer can delete imp files n phone can stop working.......root is made for intelligent tech freaks

Double tap to wake would make the phone perfect. I am so tired of misleading articles like this one stating how simple it is to obtain. I should not have to root the phone for this simple action to work. COME ON GOOGLE!

Putting the word "simple" in front of the link to the rooting instructions doesn't make it simple. I'm a techy guy and I still say "No thanks" after reading that "simple" 10-step process. One of the steps says "Oh, by the way, this will wipe everything off of your phone" and other steps say "Don't do what the screen says, do this instead or you'll have trouble."
