How to root Sony Xperia Z1: tutorial -[AndroidTutor2018]

AndroidTutor2018- The Sony Xperia Z1 is already an excellent smartphone, but if you want to take things up a notch, such as installing the mod for 4K video or uninstalling pre-loaded system applications, then you're going to need root. In this tutorial we'll walk you through the procedure for rooting the Xperia Z1.

Warning
As always, getting root is risky: if you do not follow the procedure properly, you can end up with an unusable phone. Neither AndroidPIT or myself will be held responsible for anything that may go wrong.
This method is valid ONLY for Sony Xperia Z1 C6903 under 14.3.A.0.757 firmware (Android 4.4.2).
Prerequisites
Xperia Z1 drivers properly installed on your computer
Android 4.4.2 KitKat installed, firmware number 14.3.A.0.757
Bootloader unlocked Xperia Z1 (see more information on Sony's support page)

Your Xperia Z1 needs to be running Android 4.4.2 (14.3.A.0.757) for this root tutorial. / © AndroidPIT
How to root the Xperia Z1
1. Download and install Flashtool 0.9.16.0

2. Download Doomlord's Advanced Stock Kernel and unzip the archive.

3. Start FlashTool, turn off the Xperia Z1 and connect the Z1 to your PC via USB cable while holding the Volume Up button. This will get you to Fastboot mode.

4. In FlashTool, click the lightning icon and select Fastboot flash. In the next pop-up screen – Fastboot Toolbox – click ''select kernel to flash'' in the column labelled ''by Doomlord''. Navigate the boot.img file that was in the zip file above.

5. Once the kernel has been successfully flashed, restart your smartphone and download SuperSU from the Google Play Store.

Does your phone have to be unlocked to be able to do this? Or can you do it with it locked to O2 or Vodaphone etc. ?

Hey @Ryan, you do need to be unlocked to root, but you can get the unlock code easily enough. There's plenty of alternative ways to unlock the Z1 floating around the web too.

Wonderful, thank you,
Do you have any suggestions for apps that require your phone to be rooted?

PS: Have you ever considered making a video tutorial for people struggling to root there phones? Unlocking a phone is rather challenging to people who don't know what they are doing

Could you help me with part B step 3 of unlocking the bootloader

"On your Xperia™ Z1, press the Volume up button at the same time as you connect the other end of the USB-cable. For Windows users, when asked for a driver..........."

I have done all the previous steps correctly but it never asks me to select a driver like it's supposed to any suggestions ?

Hey @MJ, I can't confirm if the same process works for the non-LTE variant as I've only tested the C6903 (LTE) which we have here. The process can be very risky if you use the wrong file so I would advise looking into it further before proceeding. I'd suggest searching XDA Developers for the two model numbers and DoomLord's page to see if you need to substitute a file.
