AndroidTutor2018- There are lots of custom keyboards to choose from, but the Google Keyboard is a great option. Whether you're using an older phone like a Galaxy S4 or Nexus 5, or you have a newer handset like a Moto X or Nexus 6 there's a handy tweak you can make that will transform the keyboard into something even more useful. If you find that you spend a lot of time swyping or typing numbers, adding a dedicated row of numbers to the top of the Google keyboard is a great timesaver. Here's how to do it – and it works in Android 5.0 Lollipop as well as older versions of Android.

Gboard - the Google Keyboard To add a dedicated row of numbers ready for easy access at the top of your keyboard, start by launching the Google Keyboard app or access the Settings screen from the keyboard itself. Tap the Appearances & layouts option.
You can customize your built in keyboard so there's no need to turn to third party options. © ANDROIDPIT
Select the Customised input styles option and then tap the + button to the upper right of the screen. Use the first menu to select the language you would like to use and then select the PC option from the Layout menu.
Select the PC layout and a row of number will appear at the top of your keyboard. © ANDROIDPIT
Check that you've select the correct options and then tap Add. If you have not used Customized keyboard styles before, you'll be prompted to click Enable.
Numbers where you need them! © ANDROIDPIT
Now turn off the option labelled Use system language, and then select the PC layout keyboard you have just configured. The next time you see the keyboard when you select a text entry field, you'll notice that there is an extra row of buttons comprising numbers. Simple!
It does mean that the remaining rows of keys are slightly smaller than before, but this is a small price to pay.

LG G3 has that built in to their keyboard..quite a hnady feature if needed, quite useless if you have a device with small screen..

Yeah, the G4 has it as well but, honestly, their keyboard's swype functionality is awful compared to the stock google keyboard. Also their text prediction is far inferior to Google's as well. I do love the layout of the LG Keyboard on my G4 but it's functionality frequently leaves me angry with the phone becuase it's forever putting the wrong word in. For example 90% of the time if I swype ON or IN it tries to put o.k. instead... seriously annoing especially since, because of the periods, you can't just long press to delete the mistake, you have to move the cursor manually and delete it.
Not to mention the stock keyboard allows you to use voice input while LG's does not. (Serious flaw, imo)

Tried it but the keys are too small after the change...so had to revert to original settings.

Yes.... how useful you find this will depend not only on how frequently you have to type numbers, but also the size of your screen (as this influences the size of the slightly shrunken keys), and the size of you fingers ;)

I just set the holding time to approx 200ms in swiftkey and I love it.
I dont need another row...

but the problem is that when you select PC then you are probably forcedinto qwerty or alike and when you want another layout for whatever reason, you are f*cked.
