AndroidTutor2018- A senior developer over at XDA Developer's Forum has built a very handy custom ROM database that lets you compare the features of various custom ROMs at a glance. Sterling recently shared very convenient infographics to explain the main features of Paranoid Android, CyanogenMod and AOKP. This new database will spread that awareness even further (although it's not as exciting to look at).

The database was originally missing the hugely popular custom ROMs Paranoid Android, Omni and AOKP though, and due to reader feedback and lack of time, the database maestro, nimrodity, opened it up to be publicly editable. At the moment, the custom ROMs CyanogenMod, Carbon, Paranoid Android, AOKP, Revolt, PACman and SlimBean are the ones on the list. Omni and MIUI won't be far behind. You can check out the newest database in XDA's database thread.

The developer of the database also posted several videos explaining the review process, an explanation of what he was trying to achieve and why he does his review the way he does. You can check all that content out on the relevant Custom ROM comparison database 2.0 page over at XDA. @Thamsanqa, I did, but their information was overwhelming and left me even more confused than I was before. I wouldn't even consider myself to be a novice. I'm really clueless when it comes to this in particular. I'm still clinging to the info I got from Wikipedia. This is unknown territory for me........

If your going to flash a custom rom the rule is.. Read read read.. Take a break. Then read some more. Go for coffee.. The read. Etc.

No kidding @Kris! Didn't know that :)
I got a little nervous at first because the old CyanogenMod made for Android 4.1.2, there was too many bug issues with that build.
By chance, do you know of any good sites to go to that better explain rom builds (with less tech talk)? I'm still in reasurch mode. I don't own a computer and can't utilize one for the rooting and rom process................

Hi Amy, yeah I realised you'd commented at the same time as I did and the comment might have been mixed up, so I did a quick edit! You need to match the ROM version to your device and bootloader version but Android version doesn't matter, as part of the reason for rooting/flashing ROMs is to get OS updates your OEM never bothered to do.

@Kris, not sure which one of us you are referring to (probably both of us :P ). Read them both.
One thing I just don't get though. You have to get the correct rom build that corresponds to the Android version you have, right?
I can't actually go and install a rom ment for a later Android version, correct?

I went to the XDA developers site and forum a little while back and could not find that much comprehensive ROM info for my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (older one) with Android 4.1.2.
The only relevant info I could find was that most developers with this device found no reason to root it and people who were trying to ran into an issue when it came to exploiting because the "security hole" has been patched since the 4.0 release..................Don't want to undergo anything until I obtain enough info to help understand and do it right the first time with no future regrets.
I have some tech savvy, but not much
